MUMBAI FILM FESTIVAL 2011

Tutti gli appassionati di cinema indiano - quotidianamente discriminati dall'inesistente distribuzione nel nostro Paese di film indiani, nonché umiliati dai giudizi frettolosi e corrosivi dei media italiani nei confronti della cinematografia più fiorente del pianeta -, in attesa del crollo finanziario e produttivo (financo edilizio, per essere sicuri) di Hollywood e dell'avvento di un mondo buono e giusto, si consolano in clandestinità con le notizie delle prime delle pellicole indiane e con i pantagruelici programmi delle rassegne più golose: l'International Film Festival of India di Goa e il Mumbai Film Festival. Pronti per volare, almeno con la mente, nella vera capitale del cinema?

Dal 13 al 20 ottobre si svolgerà il Mumbai Film Festival 2011. Il cartellone è ovviamente ricchissimo di titoli indiani, pertanto sconsiglio agli appassionati affetti da patologie cardiovascolari la lettura della lista delle pellicole incluse nelle sezioni Dimensions Mumbai (venti film), Indian frame (tredici), New faces in Indian cinema (cinque) e Indian retrospective (dodici succosi classici diretti dai più grandi nomi del cinema d'autore, fra cui Shyam Benegal, Rituparno Ghosh, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Girish Kasaravalli, Sudhir Mishra). Per non decimare il nostro bacino di utenza, segnalo solo alcuni dei titoli indiani in programma: Sengadal (2011, tamil) di Leena Manimekalai, Stanley Ka Dabba, Adaminte Makan Abu, Urumi, Aadukalam.

Aadukalam

Organizzato dalla Mumbai Academy of Moving Image, il Mumbai Film Festival, giunto alla 13esima edizione, si arricchisce di anno in anno di eventi e iniziative collaterali, fra cui cito:

* Mumbai Film Mart, dal 15 al 17 ottobre, i cui lavori si concentreranno sull'analisi dei nuovi mercati per il cinema indiano: Cina, Corea, Giappone, Europa e America Latina. Interverranno funzionari delle più importanti case di produzione indiane: Reliance Entertainment, UTV Motion Pictures, Eros International Media, Yash Raj Films, eccetera. Parteciperanno delegati di case di distribuzione internazionali provenienti da USA, Germania, Francia, Giappone, Cina, eccetera. Ad oggi non risulta l'iscrizione di distributori italiani (l'avvento pare ancora lontano);

* Indo-German script development workshop, dall'11 al 13 ottobre, a cui interverranno registi e sceneggiatori tedeschi e indiani, fra cui Ashutosh Gowariker e Sooni Taraporevala.

È previsto un tributo a Shammi Kapoor, a M.F. Husain e a Mani Kaul, recentemente scomparsi. Il poeta, paroliere, sceneggiatore e regista Gulzar riceverà un premio alla carriera. La regista Kiran Rao, moglie della superstar Aamir Khan, è il presidente della giuria della sezione Dimensions Mumbai, affiancata, fra gli altri, da Onir, Nishikant Kamat e Vikramaditya Motwane.

(Questo sì che è un festival).

RICORDANDO SHAMMI KAPOOR

Il 14 agosto 2011 si apre con una notizia amara. Sono trascorse solo poche ore, ma già tutte le star del firmamento indiano stanno sommergendo la rete di messaggi in seguito alla scomparsa della superstar degli anni Sessanta, il grande Shammi Kapoor.

Con la morte di Shammi si chiude un capitolo intero della storia del cinema, così come avvenne nel 1988 quando ci lasciò Raj Kapoor. Tutti coloro che hanno amato i suoi film, ma ancora di più la sua personalità, oggi non possono che provare una profonda tristezza. Poco meno di un anno fa ho avuto la straordinaria fortuna di incontrarlo, e sono rimasta colpita dalla sua incredibile umiltà. Ricordo la sua commozione nell'udire un pubblico di giovani intonare le canzoni dei suoi lavori. L'attore ha ringraziato e guardato negli occhi ciascuno di noi. Uno sguardo così tenero che non potrò mai dimenticare. 

I suoi titoli sono classici evergreen che trasmettono allegria e voglia di vivere, storie amabili che conquistano al primo fotogramma. Fra i maggiori successi:  JUNGLEE, KASHMIR KI KALI, TUMSA NAHIN DEKHA, BLUFFMASTER, AN EVENING IN PARIS, BRAHMACHARI, CHINATOWN, SINGAPORE, PRINCE, TEESRI MANZIL, RAJKUMAR, BUDTAMEEZ, TUMSE ACCHA KAUN HAI.

Allegro, imbronciato, romantico, simpatico, burlone, energico ballerino dalle movenze pazze e imprevedibili, item boy, rockstar, Shammi è stato e rimarrà l'icona della giovinezza, il grido di rivolta contro il vecchio sistema, la ribellione all'ipocrisia, e la ricerca di una propria nuova identità, selvaggia, euforica, libera di esprimersi senza timori.

Today is a very sad day. He will always live in our hearts. Love you sir.
