NATIONAL FILM AWARD PER L'ANNO 2013: I VINCITORI

Qualche giorno fa sono stati annunciati i vincitori dei National Film Award per l'anno 2013. Maestoso bottino per il cinema hindi - in particolare per la produzione indipendente - che non solo conquista tutti i premi maggiori (miglior film, miglior regia, miglior attore protagonista, miglior attrice protagonista), ma si aggiudica anche un nutrito nugolo di quelli minori, confermandosi dunque la prima industria cinematografica indiana. Grande assente: The lunchbox (forse a seguito della polemica per la mancata selezione a rappresentare l'India agli Oscar?). Ne riporto alcuni di seguito:

* Ship of Theseus di Anand Gandhi, in lingua hindi e inglese: miglior film, miglior attrice non protagonista (Aida Elkashef, ex aequo);

* Shahid di Hansal Mehta: miglior regista e miglior attore protagonista (Rajkummar Rao, ex aequo con Suraj Venjaramoodu per la pellicola in lingua malayalam Perariyathavar);

* Liar's Dice di Geetu Mohandas: miglior attrice protagonista (Geetanjali Thapa), miglior fotografia;

* Bhaag Milkha Bhaag di Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra: miglior film d'intrattenimento e miglior coreografia (Maston Ka Jhund di Ganesh Acharya);

* Jolly LLB di Subhash Kapoor: miglior film in lingua hindi e miglior attore non protagonista (Saurabh Shukla);

* Miss Lovely di Ashim Ahluwalia: premio speciale della giuria e best production design; 

* Kaphal di Batul Mukhtiar: miglior film per ragazzi;

* Madras Cafe di Shoojit Sircar: best audiography location sound recordist e best audiography sound design;

* Jal di Girish Malik: migliori effetti speciali;

* Rangbhoomi di Kamal Swaroop: miglior documentario. Rangbhoomi era stato proiettato in prima mondiale al Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma 2013;

* Kush di Shubhashish Bhutiani (cortometraggio): best promotional film (ex aequo). Kush aveva vinto il primo premio alla Mostra del Cinema di Venezia 2013 nella categoria Orizzonti. 

Fra gli altri titoli premiati:

* Fandry di Nagraj Manjule, lingua marathi: miglior opera prima, best child artist (ex aequo);

* Yellow di Mahesh Limaye, lingua marathi: premio speciale della giuria (ex aequo con Miss Lovely), menzione speciale (ex aequo);

* The coffin maker di Veena Bakshi: miglior film in lingua inglese.

NATIONAL FILM AWARD PER L'ANNO 2012: I VINCITORI

Sono stati annunciati i vincitori dei prestigiosi National Film Award per la produzione dell'anno 2012. L'industria cinematografica hindi ha ottime ragioni per celebrare: il bottino è ricchissimo. Segnalo di seguito solo i premi più importanti, con qualche cenno anche alle altre cinematografie.

 

* Paan Singh Tomar: miglior film, miglior attore protagonista (Irrfan Khan - ex aequo con Vikram Gokhale per Anumati, in lingua marathi)

* Chittagong di Bedaprata Pain: miglior opera prima (ex aequo)

* Vicky Donor di Shoojit Sircar: miglior film d'intrattenimento (ex aequo), miglior attore non protagonista (Annu Kapur), miglior attrice non protagonista (Dolly Ahluwalia, ex aequo)

* Delhi safari di Nikkhil Advani: miglior film d'animazione

I feel more cautious now about what I'm making, Devanshi Seth, The Times of India, 20 marzo 2013. Dichiarazioni di Tigmanshu Dhulia: 'It's overwhelming. I wasn't expecting this. I did expect Irrfan to win, though. There were so many good films this year. So, it wasn't a walk-over for me. No one can say we won the award because there was no competition. And that's what's giving me added pleasure. That we won despite the competition. (...) It's true that off-beat films are now commercially successful. But it was an economic necessity. When some five years ago, multiplexes began to open in smaller cities, the middle class intellectuals in these cities started going back to theatres. Till before this, the cinema halls were in such bad shape that the educated elite did not want to step out of their homes to watch a film. This was also the time when there was this huge vomit of Hindi films by big banners, which were made essentially for the NRI audience, and that doctors, engineers, lawyers in these towns could not relate to. When multiplexes opened up, these people began to return to theatres, fuelling a demand for a cinema they could relate to, and the Indian box office returns began to make a difference, with revenues from small cities increasing. And they're increasing every year'.

 

Definition of 'hero' is changing in Hindi cinema, Aarushi Nigam, The Times of India, 20 marzo 2013. Dichiarazioni di Irrfan Khan: 'I'm very happy, I'm ecstatic for the film, for the subject, and for Paan Singh himself. For me, it's... the most interesting thing about this award is the kind of reaction I got from the people who are my well-wishers, who believe in me. They are reacting as if they themselves have got the award. You somehow feel that people connect with you and people put their hopes in you, and they somehow feel that we are representing them. So they are feeling that this is their victory. That Paan Singh was looking for its due, and it has got its due now. (...) And the definition of 'hero' is changing in Hindi cinema, and it will keep on changing, it's not a temporary change. Last year, you saw a few films which were trying to redefine commercial cinema, and this change will go on, because a whole new generation has come, in filmmakers and in the audience, so it's here to say'.

 

National Award is a shocker, Jyothi Prabhakar, The Times of India, 20 marzo 2013. Dichiarazioni di Shoojit Sircar: 'I'm very glad this worked, because it was a very difficult subject that I tried to present in a simple manner. But the shocker was that this subject, which is a taboo in society, which I thought would face problems on that angle, being adjudged the best entertainer - that's definitely a shout out for the Indian audience. Actually, I never thought... I mean, I thought of this as a socially relevant film. There was the topic of divorce, of infertility, sperm donation, and here we are, as the entertainers. Life's truths do entertain, isn't it?'.

  

Akshay Kumar in Twitter, 18 marzo 2013: 'Superb news, our first film Oh my God! won a National Award for Best Adapted Screenplay! Truly an OMG moment for us'.

NATIONAL FILM AWARD PER L'ANNO 2011: I VINCITORI

Oggi a Delhi sono stati proclamati i vincitori dei National Film Award per la produzione dell'anno 2011. Deool (marathi) di Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni e Byari (lingua beary) di Suveeran hanno conquistato il premio più ambito, quello per il miglior film. Girish Kulkarni, protagonista di Deool, si è aggiudicato la statuetta per il miglior attore protagonista. Gurvinder Singh ha vinto il premio per il miglior regista con Anhey Ghorhey Da Daan (che ha conquistato anche la statuetta per il miglior film in lingua punjabi e per la migliore fotografia). Ad Inshallah, Football (kashmiri, urdu, inglese), documentario di Ashvin Kumar alla cui produzione ha collaborato Giulia Achilli, è stato attribuito il premio best film on social issues.

La cinematografia in lingua hindi torna a Mumbai con un bottino niente male:

* The dirty picture: miglior attrice protagonista (Vidya Balan), migliori costumi (ex aequo), miglior trucco di scena (ex aequo);

* Chillar Party: miglior film per ragazzi, best child artist (un nugolo di attori) ex aequo con Stanley Ka Dabba, migliore sceneggiatura;

* I am: miglior film hindi;

* Stanley Ka Dabba: best child artist (Partho Gupte) ex aequo con Chillar Party;

* Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara: miglior coreografia (Bosco-Caesar per Señorita);

* Ra.One: migliori effetti speciali.

- This is a victory for independent filmmakers, Deepika Sahu, The Times of India, 10 marzo 2012. Dichiarazioni rilasciate da Onir: 'Ritengo che questo premio costituisca una vittoria per tutti i registi indipendenti. È molto difficile essere un cineasta indipendente. Non è solo una questione di costi di realizzazione e di distribuzione: il nostro cinema è governato dalla regola della gratificazione immediata. E i finanziatori non fanno che ripetere la formula che il pubblico non è interessato. Ma come può fiorire il nostro cinema se i giovani registi non vengono incoraggiati?'.

- Business of Cinema, 10 marzo 2012. Dichiarazioni rilasciate da Onir: 

'Non è un trionfo solo personale. A livello più ampio, è una vittoria per i registi omosessuali e per quei film sempre trascurati dai National Award e dai premi popolari. Ora dovremmo poter lavorare in un'atmosfera di maggior tolleranza e libertà, dal momento che è stato chiaramente affermato che le pellicole sull'omosessualità non sono peccaminose. (A proposito della censura imposta ad I am per la diffusione via satellite) Ho combattuto con tutte le mie forze per salvare la sequenza del bacio fra i due protagonisti omosessuali, ma è stata tagliata. Pare sia consentito il bacio fra uomo e donna, ma non fra due uomini. Non vedo nulla di male nel fatto che il regista Rituparno Ghosh si concentri su film a tematica omosessuale. Se la maggioranza dei cineasti può raccontare esclusivamente relazioni eterosessuali, perché alcuni di noi non possono creare consapevolezza sull'argomento dell'omosessualità attraverso il nostro cinema? Non sto affermando che tutte le mie pellicole si baseranno su tematiche omosessuali, ma se ritengo l'argomento adatto al mio schema creativo, perché no? Il National Award conferito ad I am, film che tratta anche di omosessualità, arriva in una fase in cui abbiamo disperatamente bisogno di superare i pregiudizi contro la comunità omosessuale'.

- Crowd funding: an emerging trend in Bollywood, Renu Singh, The Times of India, 11 marzo 2012: 

'How open is the Indian film industry in embracing this new trend?

Small is Big - Onir believes that this notion of funding will be of huge help to independent film makers and those who don’t get funding for innovative concept of movies which don’t follow regular Bollywood tastes. “The important part of crowd-funding is that film makers get finances from people who believe in their projects. It is a huge boost to those who find it difficult to generate finances through other means. We got funding for our out of the box subject. “I Am” is one of smallest budget films of 2011 in Bollywood which is one of largest film industries in the world. Getting a National Award for a film that has been funded this way is not a small deal,” shares Onir. (...)

Risk Reduction - When hundreds of movies in Bollywood releasing every year don’t find a good distribution and exhibition channel, crowd-funding is the safest option that reduces the risk of investment dividing the loss between many who are involved in the funding. Producer Guneet Monga frequently collaborates with Anurag Kashyap and is coming up with an untitled film directed by Vasan Bala. The finances for the movie are being raised through crowd-funding. Says Guneet, “Movies who don’t find studios for funding can very well go to masses and source finances from people who believe in their projects. We are coming up with a movie that is funded through social media. (...) This concept reduces the share of losses incurred. Thus it does not burden a single production house or an individual. Adds Onir, “Apart from reducing risks, crowd funding also lends transparency in financial dealings. One actually doesn’t have to get into talks with people and production houses who can interfere with the work.”

Money Matters - The people investing in movies not only get profit sharing in box-office collections but are also credited as co-producers in the movies. Says Onir, “All 400 investors in “I Am” got acknowledged as co-producers in the movie as well as being part of the profit sharing process.” (...)

The Bigger Picture - However, this funding process only works for small budget films. (...) Says Onir, “Crowd sourcing is more for independent film makers. It is not meant for big budget movies with a huge star cast. In any case, why would they even need it? They have production houses financing big names.” Guneet also says there is a limitation of fund pooled in for finance. “The biggest disadvantage of crowd-funding is you can’t raise a lot of money through it. That could be because it is an entirely new concept for the Indian market. We can hope that the situation improves in future.”

European connection - Another drawback of crowd-funding is that though the concept is doing good in the European market, Indian film makers find hard to attract investors from European countries. Guneet comes up with the solution for this problem. “One needs to structure the film well to access the European funds. One has to have a good script with an universal appeal that people from all over will like to be part of.”(...)

Copy Cat? - Another hitch is that the film’s concept might get copied when one asks for funding in the social media space'.

- Video Business of Cinema. Il 26 aprile 2012 ha avuto luogo un evento celebrativo del National Award assegnato ad I am, evento al quale hanno partecipato, fra gli altri, Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, Urmila Matondkar, Sanjay Suri e Gul Panag. 

- Can we ban the Censor Board, please?, Diksha Kamra, The Times of India, 4 maggio 2012. Dichiarazioni rilasciate da Ashvin Kumar: 

'What kind of problems did Ashvin face while shooting “Inshallah, Football”? “If a filmmaker puts his camera in Kashmir, he’s already facing a problem. You’re not made to feel particularly welcome by the armed forces. So obviously, I knew I might face some trouble,” Ashvin begins politely, and adds, “Plus, with the issues my films touch upon, they hold up a mirror to the nation. And we, as a nation, have a problem looking at ourselves in the mirror. We tend to smash the mirror even before we can see our reflection in it. (...) While shooting “Inshallah, Football”, I had every inkling that it might be banned, but as long as we don’t push the system, as long as we don’t raise the bar, we’re going to face mediocre treatment, and never let this country grow.” “Inshallah, Football” also has a cameo by J&K CM Omar Abdullah. How did that happen? “I was shooting the film in Kashmir, based on the real life of a young footballer who wants to fly to Brazil to play a football match but the Indian government does not give him a passport because his father is an ex-militant. While the shooting was going on, a journalist wrote about it in the paper there. Omar read about it, called up his department and arranged for a passport for the boy. This happened while we were shooting. So I approached him and luckily, he agreed. It was not me, but destiny that wrote him into the film’s script”.'

- It's a great year for Indian cinema, Patcy N., Rediff, 7 maggio 2012. Anurag Kashyap commenta così il National Award conferito a Vidya Balan: 'I think Vidya should be given an award just like that for her choice of films. Have other actresses got the confidence to come out of their comfort zone and act in different kinds of films? I am a big supporter of courage. Anybody who shows courage should be rewarded. The box office is rewarding her and the country is applauding her so I am happy for Vidya Balan. (...) I have thought about casting her many times and we have talked about ideas, but it has to be the right thing because people have certain expectations from her. I can't take a film to her unless the film is on her'.

NATIONAL FILM AWARD PER L'ANNO 2010: I VINCITORI

Oggi a Delhi sono stati annunciati  i vincitori dei prestigiosi National Film Award per la produzione dell'anno 2010. La pellicola in lingua malayalam Adaminte Makan Abu, di Salim Ahmed, si è aggiudicata il premio più ambito, quello per il miglior film (nonché per la miglior fotografia). E non solo: Salim Kumar ha conquistato il premio per il miglior attore protagonista (ex aequo con Dhanush, per la pellicola in lingua tamil Aadukalam). Vetri Maaran ha vinto il premio per il miglior regista e per la migliore sceneggiatura con Aadukalam, titolo che si è aggiudicato anche i premi per il miglior montaggio e per la miglior coreografia.

Per quanto riguarda il cinema hindi, segnalo:

* Dabangg: miglior film d'intrattenimento;

* Ishqiya: miglior colonna sonora (Vishal Bhardwaj), miglior cantante femminile (Rekha Bhardwaj, moglie di Vishal, per il brano Badi Dheere Jali), e miglior audio;

* I am Kalam: best child artist Harsh Mayar (ex aequo);

* Do Dooni Chaar: miglior film hindi.

Una menzione speciale per Enthiran, che ha vinto i premi per la miglior direzione artistica e per i migliori effetti speciali. Segnalo inoltre che Memories in March si è aggiudicato il premio per il miglior film in lingua inglese.

Salim Kumar ha dichiarato a Hindustan Times: 'Essendo un attore principalmente comico, ho affrontato il ruolo in AMA in modo molto serio. Chiesi persino al regista se fosse sicuro di scritturare proprio me. Ma lui rispose: 'Quello che desidero è realizzare un buon film'. Sono stato ricompensato e ringrazio Dio'.

Habib Faisal, regista di Do Dooni Chaar, ha dichiarato a Hindustan Times: 'Nel 2010 sono state distribuite alcune pellicole davvero emozionanti, come Tere Bin Laden, Udaan e Peepli [Live]. Pensavo che Peepli [Live] avrebbe conquistato il National Award. È un grande onore vincere il premio più prestigioso con il film di debutto. Spero di non montarmi la testa!'.

Vishal Bhardwaj ha dichiarato: 'È un grande momento per me. E la mia felicità è moltiplicata perché anche mia moglie ha vinto un National Award. Siamo beati'. Per Rekha, l'aspetto più emozionante di questa esperienza è stata la telefonata di congratulazioni di Lata Mangeshkar. Arbaaz Khan ha potuto a stento contenere l'eccitazione: 'È motivo di orgoglio per tutta la mia famiglia e per il team di Dabangg. Il National Award è un premio molto prestigioso. Sono al settimo cielo'. Ma nessuno è più soddisfatto di Rishi Kapoor: 'Wow! Sono così felice che una pellicola a basso budget abbia creato un tale botto!'. (Fonte Bollywood Hungama)

NATIONAL FILM AWARD PER L'ANNO 2009: I VINCITORI

Sono stati assegnati i National Film Award per l'anno 2009. Vi segnalo di seguito i premi per le categorie più ambite:

* miglior film Kutty Srank, malayalam, di Shaji N. Karun. La pellicola si è aggiudicata il National Award anche per la miglior fotografia, la miglior sceneggiatura, i migliori costumi, nonché il premio speciale della giuria;

* miglior regista Rituparno Ghosh per Abohoman, bengali;

* miglior attore protagonista Amitabh Bachchan per Paa;

* miglior attrice protagonista Ananya Chatterjee per Abohoman, bengali.

L'industria cinematografica di Mumbai ha ottenuto un ricco bottino:

* Paa: oltre al già citato premio per il miglior attore protagonista conferito a Bachchan, la pellicola si è aggiudicata il National Award anche per il miglior film hindi, la miglior attrice non protagonista (Arundhati Nag), il miglior trucco;

* 3 idiots: miglior film di intrattenimento, miglior testo (Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh, firmato da Swanand Kirkire), miglior produttore (Vidhu Vinod Chopra);

* Lahore: miglior regista esordiente (Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan) e miglior attore non protagonista (Farooq Sheikh);

* Kaminey: miglior audio, miglior montaggio (Sreekar Prasad, che si è aggiudicato il premio per tre pellicole: Kaminey, Kutty Srank - malayalam -, e Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja - malayalam);

* Delhi-6: miglior film sul tema dell'integrazione nazionale;

* Well Done Abba: miglior film a tema sociale;

* Dev. D: miglior colonna sonora (Amit Trivedi).

The Times of India pubblica le dichiarazioni di Abhishek Bachchan: 'La prima persona che ho chiamato è stato ovviamente mio figlio (*), che mi ha ascoltato e poi è tornato a dormire: Paa (**) è abituato ai National Award. La nostra pellicola ha vinto quattro premi e siamo tutti al settimo cielo. Questo mi infonde fiducia nel continuare a produrre film in cui credo'. Il regista R. Balki ha dichiarato: 'Sono felicissimo che Amitabh Bachchan abbia vinto un National Award per la mia pellicola. Risorge la mia fiducia nell'istituzione dei premi'. Articolo originale.

Amitabh Bachchan scrive oggi nel suo blog: 'Quattro National Award per Paa! È pazzesco! Sono deliziato, ma devo riconoscere che questo non sarebbe stato possibile senza il coraggio e l'immaginazione di R. Balki, il regista. Sarà uno dei momenti più belli della mia vita, quando il presidente dell'India decorerà Abhishek (*) e me, insieme agli altri meritevoli vincitori. Cito anche il National Award assegnato a Delhi-6, nel quale recita Abhishek. Posso proprio dire che è un grande giorno!'.

Abhishek Bachchan scrive nel suo profilo Twitter: 'Oggi sono un padre davvero orgoglioso!!!!! Mio figlio ha appena vinto il National Award per Paa!!!!! Paa ha vinto quattro National Award!!!!! Perciò scusatemi: sparirò per un po' per fare la danza della scimmia: Auro Auro Auro!!!!! (*)'.

NATIONAL FILM AWARD PER L'ANNO 2008: I VINCITORI

Il 23 gennaio 2010 sono stati resi noti i vincitori dei National Film Award per l'anno 2008, anche se in realtà alcuni dei titoli in competizione erano stati distribuiti nei primi mesi del 2009. I premi verranno ufficialmente consegnati dal presidente dell'Unione Indiana, nel corso di una cerimonia che si celebrerà in marzo.

La pellicola in lingua bengali Antaheen, di Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, ha conquistato il premio più ambito, quello per il miglior film. Il regista Bala si è aggiudicato il premio per la miglior regia con Naan Kadavul (tamil). Rimanendo in tema di cinematografie non in lingua hindi, Harishchandrachi Factory, di Paresh Mokashi, pellicola selezionata dall'India per rappresentarla agli Oscar, ha conquistato il premio per il miglior film in lingua marathi. L'attore Upendra Limaye ha vinto il premio per il miglior attore protagonista con Jogwa (marathi).

Ma la cinematografia hindi può comunque celebrare:

* Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!: miglior film di intrattenimento;

* Little Zizou: best film on family welfare;

* Fashion: Priyanka Chopra miglior attrice protagonista, Kangana Ranaut miglior attrice non protagonista;

* Jodhaa Akbar: migliori costumi, miglior coreografia per il brano Azeem-O-Shaan Shahenshah;

* Firaaq: miglior scenografia, miglior montaggio;

* Rock on!!: miglior film in lingua hindi, Arjun Rampal miglior attore non protagonista;

* Mumbai Meri Jaan: migliori effetti speciali;

* A Wednesday!: miglior regista esordiente;

* Roadside Romeo: miglior film d'animazione;

* Thanks Maa: Shams Patel best child artist.

Un nome balza subito all'occhio, quello di Madhur Bhandarkar, regista di Fashion. Le pellicole della sua filmografia hanno collezionato negli anni lo strabiliante numero di undici National Award:

- Chandni bar: miglior film a tema sociale, miglior attrice protagonista Tabu, miglior attore non protagonista Atul Kulkarni, miglior attrice non protagonista Ananya Khare;

- Page 3: miglior film, miglior sceneggiatura e miglior montaggio;

- Traffic signal: miglior regia e miglior trucco;

Madhur Bhandarkar ha dichiarato a Bollywood Hungama: 'Sono molto felice di constatare che il mio lavoro sia ancora apprezzato. Ringrazio il pubblico, i tecnici e i critici che mi stimolano a migliorare sempre. I miei film non sono esplosivi, ma forse rispecchiano la società senza esprimere giudizi. Mostro solo ciò che accade intorno a noi. Qualche volta c'è una soluzione e qualche volta no. Ma la vita va avanti comunque. Ero sicuro che Priyanka fosse la scelta giusta per il ruolo di Meghna Mathur. Priyanka è stata bravissima. Kangana inizialmente era molto indecisa: desiderava recitare nel film, ma temeva non ci fosse posto per lei in un cast che comprendeva già due attrici. Io le ho semplicemente consigliato di concentrarsi sulla forza del suo personaggio e non sulla brevità della sua parte nella storia. Sono felicissimo per Upendra Limaye che ha vinto il National Award come miglior attore protagonista per la pellicola in lingua marathi Jogwa. Sono stato il primo a scritturarlo a Bollywood, in Chandni bar. E poi in Page 3 e in Traffic signal. È l'attore di maggior talento, e penso che si sia davvero meritato quel premio'.

Priyanka Chopra ha dichiarato a The Times of India: 'Fashion è speciale per me. Quando il regista Madhur Bhandarkar mi narrò la storia, sapevo che Meghna Mathur, il mio personaggio, avrebbe lasciato il segno. Ho guadagnato diversi premi grazie a quella performance, incluso il Filmfare, e il National Award rappresenta il culmine naturale per un ruolo nel quale ho creduto davvero. Sono grata a Madhur per la fiducia che ha riposto in me. Fashion era in competizione con le migliori pellicole del Paese, e quindi aver conquistato il National Award mi fa sentire al settimo cielo. Sono felice per Kangana Ranaut, senza la quale il mio personaggio non sarebbe stato così efficace. Congratulazioni anche a lei'. Ha inoltre dichiarato a Bollywood Hungama: 'Quanto a Madhur Bhandarkar, i suoi lavori sono molto intriganti, grazie anche al modo in cui sviluppa la narrazione. Madhur è un amico e un regista che ammiro immensamente. Il merito è tutto suo per avermi convinta ad entrare nel cast. Mi ha intimato: "Se non accetti, allora io non girerò il film".'

Kangana Ranaut ha dichiarato a Bollywood Hungama: 'A 23 anni ho già conquistato l'ambitissimo National Award. A cosa posso aspirare ancora? Dovrei giusto impacchettare la mia roba e tornarmene a casa dai miei'.

Arjun Rampal, che pare abbia festeggiato la sera stessa a casa sua col cast di Rock on!!, ha dichiarato a Bollywood Hungama: 'Ho impiegato molto tempo per capire la mia professionalità e per realizzare che è questo il tipo di lavoro che voglio fare. L'aspetto davvero fantastico dei National Award di quest'anno è che tre film commerciali e di successo, che hanno però offerto un contenuto diverso dal solito, hanno conquistato dei premi. Ciò significa che anche il cinema di intrattenimento ora viene preso sul serio'.
